Giving takes time
Nearly 20 percent of the food we receive must be sorted and packaged before it’s delivered to people in need. Whether it’s one day a year or an hour a week, your hands-on contributions of time and energy help us get food where and when it’s needed most.
One person or a big group. Weekend or weekday. Morning or evening. We work with you to arrange a volunteer opportunity that suits you.
Ways to Give Time
FOOD RECLAMATION & REPACKAGING
Inspect and determine the safety of donated foods that were damaged at the grocery store and taken off the shelves. Or label, sort, and box food into usable sizes.
Student night ACTIVITIES
If you are over 13 years old, you can join us for a student nigh volunteer shift. We reserve every THURSDAY from September through May for students.
You are welome to arrive by 3:30 p.m. Shift starts at 4:00 p.m. and ends at 6:00 p.m. You can also come in over your spring break or the summer to get your school volunteer requirements fulfilled early.
SPECIAL PROJECTS
Volunteer for special or seasonal projects and help such as setting up, cleaning up, food drive collections and much more! These opportunities will be on an "as needed" basis.
Data Entry or Administrative Tasks
The Foodbank has a variety of administrative opportunities such as stuffing envelopes, data entry and web-based projects.
We have ambassador programs available for those who are interested in investing a consistent schedule to Greet at our front desk, help with confirmation calls or other duties as assigned. Not ideal for one time, or short term volunteers. Contact the Volunteer Department to learn more.
MOF Community Garden
Over the spring and summer months, we will have volunteer opportunities to help plant, tend, weed, and other normal gardening duties in the garden located at the Foodbank. With your help, we will create fresh and healthy produce that will be made available for distribution to our agencies.
We are looking for dedicated and commitment-based volunteers to help make this a huge success. Experienced and first time gardeners welcomed! If interested in helping out in the garden, please contact the Garden Coordinator VISTA, Sarah Lenkay at slenkay@midohiofoodbank.org or 614-317-9451.
